Plans for wind farm with 60m mast move step closer

Plans for a wind farm near Brixworth have moved a step closer after an application was submitted to build a 60m high meteorological mast to measure wind speeds on land north of the village.

The proposal has been put forward by property development company Bolsterstone Innovative Energy and relates to an area between Brixworth and Hanging Houghton, on the western side of the A508, where it is hoped seven wind turbines can be built.

In July, a meeting organised by The Lodge Farm Wind Farm Action Group was attended by 150 people who voiced their opposition to the plans.

David Ward, a member of the action group, said: “We still have the same concerns about the proposals, including the proximity of the wind turbines to houses and their impact on the scenic value of the area.”

Professor Michael Jefferson, an energy and environmental advisor who has spoken out against the proposals, said: “We have already got an idea of what the mean wind speeds for the area are from the government’s own wind speed database.

“The wind speed is insufficient to justify building wind turbines as they would only achieve a capacity of little more than 20 per cent.”

In July, Bolsterstone said they would be holding a full public consultation and any concerns from local residents would be discussed then.

Another application to build two 127m high wind turbines on land at Mercedes Benz in Morgan Drive, Brixworth, by the car manufacturer has also been received by Daventry District Council.

Copies of the applications are available for public viewing at Brixworth Library.
