Wind turbine company to pay $488,000 under deal
BOSTON— The owner of a wind turbine company has agreed to pay $488,000 in restitution to clear up allegations that he violated the state’s consumer protection act.
Attorney General Martha Coakley alleged Mark Howland, of East Freetown and his company WindTech-Co. made false and misleading representations in promoting the sale of wind turbines.
She also alleged he failed to install turbines paid for by consumers and provided unsafe wind turbine installations.
Under the agreement, if he fails to make that payment within one year, Howland will be responsible for a payment of $638,000.
Howland is also permanently prohibited from operating a business involving the sale and installation of alternative energy systems.
Telephone listings for Howland and WindTech could not be found.
