Opponents of a 100-megawatt, wind-power project planned on a ridge near Burney filed an appeal today with Shasta County.
Save Burney’s Skyline — a citizens’ advocacy group that formed to oppose the Hatchet Ridge Wind Project — is asking to have the turbines built out of public view.
“We … contend that reputable industry data demonstrates that tower spacing is sufficiently flexible to permit installation in locations out of direct public view,” Douglas Smith of Burney wrote in the appeal.
The appeal was filed with the Shasta County Board of Supervisors this morning. The Shasta County Planning Commission approved the project’s plans Thursday, with a 5-0 vote, after hearing about three hours of public testimony at a meeting in Burney.
Supervisors will automatically hear the issue on appeal.
