Wind farm protest group vows to fight on

Campaigners fighting plans for a wind farm in the Fens vowed to fight on today — despite being rebuked by an advertising watchdog over a “misleading” leaflet.

In a ruling published this afternoon, the Advertising Standards Agency ruled that claims the development at Marshland St James would make nearby homes worthless and ruin people’s lives were exaggerated and untruthful.

But Lyndon Mason, chairman of campaign group Fenland Landscape Against Turbines (FLAT), said: “I can understand why they did it and we’ll have to live with it, but it’s no big deal as far as I’m concerned.”

He added the next phase of FLAT’s campaign would be objecting when Marshland Wind Farm Ltd applied for planning permission to build the wind farm.

In a statement issued earlier, in response to the ASA’s ruling, the group said: “We would encourage people to read the full facts not the “edited highlights” and come to their own conclusions.

“It has always been our policy to encourage people to undertake their own investigations and make up their own minds based on the facts available to them.”

The ASA said protest groups should ensure claims made in leaflets were supported by evidence.
