Wind farm group turns out in force

An action group fighting plans for eight massive wind turbines in a Northamptonshire village turned out in force to hear the proposals from an energy firm.

More than 50 villagers joined the No Wind farm at Yelvertoft (NoWay) group protesting against Your Energy’s presentation on Tuesday night.

Many had to listen to the parish council’s planning meeting from the streets after residents filled the room.

Alan Hesketh, chairman of the NoWay campaign, said: “We were delighted, though not surprised, by the tremendous turnout from fellow villagers, who are horrified by what is proposed on the fields near the village.

“We have already stated that our fight is not against wind energy in general, though we think the argument for wind power is seriously flawed, but that sites in central England prove to be the most inefficient locations for wind turbines.

“The very fact that Your Energy is proposing to build 125-metre tall turbines shows that there isn’t sufficient wind here in Yelvertoft to power the 100-metre turbines usually used on wind farms, thus the need to erect taller ones.”

Your Energy has already cut the number of turbines planned for the site between the village and the M1 from 12 to eight, and a further exhibition will take place on Tuesday, in Yelvertoft village hall from 3pm to 9pm.
