Questions unanswered at wind farm meeting

Angry villagers turned out in force to protest against a potential wind farm being built on their doorstep.

A meeting was held on Tuesday night by developers Your Energy to talk to the planning committee of Yelvertoft Parish Council and members of the public about the proposed plans for an eight-turbine wind farm near the village.

However the meeting in the Reading Room, in the High Street, left some people frustrated as the developers were unable to answer many of the questions asked.

Alan Hesketh, a Yelvertoft resident, said: “It was very well attended with people having to stand outside.

“We were very critical of the plans and there were a lot of questions that they could not answer. The developers got absolutely hammered.

“We raised concerns about people’s health, the noise and the distance that they were from the nearest buildings. It is 600 metres from the nearest property which is far too close.”

Plans for the wind farm have already been scaled back after feedback from local people.

Your Energy had initially proposed putting up 12 turbines on land to the west of the village on land both north and south of a bridleway.

However the developer has now reduced its plans to only eight turbines to reduce its visual impact.

And after discussions with both local horseriders and the British Horse Society, the turbines would only stand on the northern side of the right of way.

Development manager at Your Energy Charlotte Healey said: “We always aim to be good neighbours throughout the lifetime of our wind farms so consultation with the community is vitally important to us. We wrote to 1,300 homes closest to the site this summer and have listened to what local people told us and revised our plans.

“Now everyone is welcome to come along and take this excellent opportunity to see the plans we will be submitting this autumn.”

Included in next week’s displays will be computer images of how the wind farm might look and information on a £1.2 million community benefit fund.

The exhibition is in Crick’s Old School on Monday, Yelvertoft Village Hall on Tuesday, and Lilbourne Village Hall on Wednesday. All three are open from 3 to 9pm.
