Height of Ceres wind turbines may be reduced

The firm behind plans to build a windfarm near Ceres has said it hopes that a reduction in the height of turbines proposed will see it secure planning approval.

EnergieKontor spokesperson Judith Cornfield told the Fife Herald that the company had felt determination of the contentious application had “taken a while”, but said it was hopeful that discussions with the Ministry of Defence over radar implications for RAF Leuchars could soon be resolved.

She said: “I understand that Fife Council is awaiting the outcome of discussions between EnergieKontor and the MoD prior to making a decision.

“We will be amending the application if this enables the MoD to remove their objection to the windfarm.

“I expect a positive outcome from our discussions which will mean a small reduction in height of some of the turbines.

“There will be no other changes to the application; the number and position of the turbines will be unchanged.”

The council’s planning chief for east area, Alistair Hamilton, confirmed the application was not on the agenda for the September meeting of the local planning committee as the council was waiting for information.

He said: “I am currently awaiting the submission of additional information from EnergieKontor clarifying the extent of the changes required to address the MoD’s concerns.

“On receipt of the amended plans we will consider the extent of the changes and the application will be subject to either reconsultation or we will seek the submission of a new application.”
