Money raised for Chilla Against Turbines campaign
More than £1,300 has been raised by a community united against proposals for a new windfarm.
The Chilla Against Turbines (CAT) fundraising team, led by Mary and Gordon King, hosted a party in the grounds of their home in West Chilla.
A group spokesman said: “We were blessed, against all odds, by good weather, which contributed to the large and enthusiastic turnout of all ages.
“Everyone’s generosity on the day contributed towards our fighting fund to stop the proposed wind farm consisting of 15 410ft high turbines and substation in the Chilla Valley -incorporating the moors of Chilla, Graddon, Odham and Hollow.
“A film show provided information on the construction and operations of such industrial windfarm developments. There was also a presentation of rare flora and fauna to be found in the area, and a guide on how people could volunteer to help gather valuable information on local wildlife.”
The party included walks, cream teas, sale of plants, garden ornaments, bric-a-brac, cakes, books and toys. There was also face painting, a lucky dip, and games for children.
Mary and Gordon King thanked everyone who helped organise the event.
“We have much heart warming community spirit, and long may it continue,” they said.
National energy company Scottish Power is looking at the possibility of installing 15 turbines at the site near Halwill.
