Go-ahead for Burton wind monitor mast
Planning officials have approved a scheme to build a 70-metre wind monitoring mast near Burton-Upon-Stather.The mast, which will be in place for two years, will provide crucial data for a company planning on building a windfarm on the land.
Plans for the seven turbines were submitted to North Lincolnshire Council in July, and a decision is expected in October.
The company behind the plans, Wind Prospect Developments, welcomed the decision. A spokeswoman said: “The decision sends a message of support for the further development of renewable energy in the region.”
Burton-Upon-Stather residents opposing the turbine development last month created an action group to try and halt the plans.
Burton Against Turbines (BATS) claim the £2.8-million development will damage the value of their homes.
If it is agreed, the group said it wants a block council tax reduction for Burton residents.
Brigg and Goole MP Ian Cawsey said he had received concerns from many of his constituents about the plans.
He said: “There are lots of people who have concerns about this application and lots of those people aren’t against windpower.”
Objections to the seven turbines in the other planning application include worries about noise and the windfarm being a visual eyesore.
