Wind farm is positively a bad idea for county

I have to respond to DeKalb County Board Chairwoman Ruth Anne Tobias’ comments concerning Florida Power & Light Energy’s push to “green up” our county (see last Wednesday’s Page A1 article “[1] Wind power plan could arrive in July”).

In the article, Tobias said of the wind farm plan that she hopes “people would think about it more positively.” I agree.

Will there be a tremendous surge in construction traffic, noise and dust because of the more than 250 construction workers and the equipment that will descend on our county? I am positive.

Will there be the benefit of cheaper electricity for all residents of DeKalb County because of the project? I am positive there will not.

Will there be a marked change in the landscape of our county forever, a change not many — except those financially benefiting from the project — will embrace? I am positive.

Will there be property tax breaks for those residents whose way of life is most directly affected by the turbines and have little or no say in their placement? I am positive there will not.

Since it seems Ms. Tobias is trying to sell the project, will there be fair representation of all residents of DeKalb County? I am not so sure.
