Dunne fights for Ohariu residents
Ohariu-Belmont MP Peter Dunne says he’s disappointed to see State-Owned Enterprises Minister Trevor Mallard ducking and weaving over the issue of how Meridian Energy is dealing with local residents over the proposed Mill Creek windfarm. Mr Dunne tackled Mr Mallard on the issue during Question time in Parliament on April 9 but the Minister failed to show any leadership in the matter”. “Mr Mallard made great play of requiring SOE’s to show corporate responsibility, but when the Ohariu Valley residents complain they have been lied to and misled by Meridian, the Minister retreats behind the limp claim that it is an operational matter and not one that he can get involved in,” Mr Dunne said. Stating it as not good enough, Mr Dunne believes if the Minister is to stand by his grandiose statements, he should tell Meridian that it must do a great deal better in consulting with local residents over the proposed windfarm.
