Mexico’s energy regulator CRE has approved consortium Eurus’ 250MW wind power self-supply generation project, which would benefit local cement producer Cemex (NYSE: CX).
Cemex along with subsidiaries Inmobiliaria RÃo La Silla and TEG EnergÃa make up Eurus, which plans to build a wind park in the municipality of Juchitán de Zaragoza in Oaxaca state, according to a CRE resolution.
The park would have 300 turbines and generate an estimated 876GWh a year.
According to the resolution, the project would begin in the third quarter of 2008 with a topographical survey, the submission of a land use modification request and work to secure the construction license.
Eurus aims to bring the wind park online in June 2010.
