Public Inquiry for proposed turbines in Carsington, Hopton, and Brassington
The Public Inquiry will start at 10am on Tuesday 1st July and last for 8 days. It will be based at the Derbyshire Dales District Council, Town Hall, Matlock.
If you would like to present your views during the hearing, you must attend the opening session at 10am on the first day. The Planning Inspector will take your details and schedule some time for you to speak, probably during the second week.

Minister of Tourism approves Wolfe Island Wind Project
On June 4, 2008, the Minister of Tourism confirmed the province’s approval for the Wolfe Island Wind Project. Premier Dalton McGuinty asked the Minister to step in when the Environment Minister declared a conflict-of-interest on May 29, 2008.
Controversy over the Wolfe Island Wind Project centres on the location of a handful of the 86-wind turbines that Canadian Renewable Energy Corporation hopes to build on the island later this year.

As you may know, there are plans to erect three huge wind turbines in the beautiful countryside of Benington.
These three turbines, reaching 400 foot each, will destroy the beauty and peace of such a serene area, and will be seen for many miles around.

Answers to a few questions
The air went out of the sails of the “Wind Power Forum” for a bit because we hope to make it Web based and have some technical tinkering to do to prepare The Smoky Mountain News’ Web site.
To whet your appetite and perhaps inspire wind-power proponents to respond, I will give you a glimpse from the most complete response (answering all the reader-inspired questions) we have received to date.

Wind Farms and Carbon Dioxide Savings
Intuitively it would seem logical that if enough wind farms are built then it must be possible to shut down some coal or gas fired power stations and save carbon dioxide.
But that is not the case.
The Government repeatedly states that they want to see 25 to 33 gigawatts of electricity generated from wind. That is about half of the UK’s total electricity requirements. If this amount were ever achieved, it would have to have at least 33 GW of coal . . .

Wind Turbine Noise 2009
The 3rd International Conference on Wind Turbine Noise will be held over 3 days from 17-19th June 2009 in Aalborg, Denmark.
This Third International Conference, organised by Ince/Europe, will once again provide a venue for all those with an interest in wind turbine noise, and its effects on people, to meet together and also meet with those who design wind turbine installations, both in industry and in the planning process.
There is also an introductory course on noise on the afternoon prior . . .

Prattsburgh, N.Y., eminent domain hearing videos
Nearly 150 people attended a public hearing on May 22 about a resolution passed by the town of Prattsburgh, N.Y., to condemn and seize property owned by seven residents for a 100-mile high-voltage transmission line needed by a 36-turbine wind farm being developed by First Wind (UPC).
