Report of Prattsburgh, N.Y., eminent domain hearing
Edward D. Cerra of Dillenbeck Road was kind enough to provide the following summary of the May 22 public hearing in Prattsburgh concerning condemnation proceedings against the remaining property owners who have resisted signing easements for Windfarm Prattsburgh.
Owing to the large attendance, the meeting was held at the town fire hall, which was full to near capacity.

Volksinitiative Deutschland/Brandenburg [Referendum Germany/Brandenburg]
Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,
Hiermit teilen wir Ihnen mit, dass eine Volksinitiative gegen die Massen-Bebauung mit Windrädern im Bundesland Brandenburg stattfindet.
Es beteiligen sich zur Zeit 16 Vereine und Initiativen im Land Brandenburg an dieser Volksinitiative.
Wir fordern:
- 1.500 m Mindest-Abstand zur Wohnbebauung
- Keine Anlagen in Naturschutzgebiete
- 10.000 m Abstand der Wind-Gebiete untereinander

Liability — a sleeper issue?
A landowner writes:
I called my insurance agent and asked if my farm liability policy would defend me against a nuisance lawsuit by a neighbor related to wind turbines. The answer is no. Two other insurance companies returned the same answer. The wind contracts have carefully written hold-harmless clauses that do not commit the turbine owner to pay landowner legal costs or judgements for this. Eminent domain alert — Prattsburgh, N.Y.
On April 22, 2008, the Town Board of Prattburgh in Steuben County, NY, resolved to authorize the commencement of condemnation proceedings under the EDPL against eight specific landowners and against “any other property” along several specific roads in order to secure easements for transmission lines for Windfarm Prattsburgh, a “First Wind” (formerly known as UPC) project.
